I'm originally from Milwaukee, WI, went to college in Chicago, IL, and after finishing my doctorate in East Asian History in 2007, I joined the State Department's Office of the Historian. There I have been working on a project to digitize the _Foreign Relations of the United States_ diplomatic history documentary edition (now 150 years old) and redesign the Office's website. This work brought me headlong into the digital humanities community, where I have developed an expertise in XML-related technologies (TEI, XQuery, eXist-db), text encoding, web development, and data visualization and analysis. At THATCamp, I am interested in learning from others and sharing my expertise where I can.
