I am a historian of photography who started out as a photographer, taking studio courses as a student at MIT, where I spent my junior year of college studying the connections between the humanities and the sciences. I now direct the Photographic Memory Workshop and teach courses on history and theory of visual culture at Yale, and I am also becoming deeply involved in the intersections of digital humanities/public humanities. Along with my team, I have a new NEH Digital Humanities grant for the Photogrammar Project; we are making a digital map of the Farm Security Administration-Office of War Information photographic archive at the Library of Congress - over 170,000 photographs! Its informative and mind expanding, and even inspiring, but there is A LOT to learn! I do like Slavoj Zizek, but mostly I like Jacques Ranciere better.
